01Extract every complete frame.

GifLoom rebuilds the full canvas for each frame and saves still PNG images. Animation timing is not part of a PNG.

Limits: 50 MB input, 1,000 frames, 4 million pixels per frame, 40 million total canvas pixels, 50 MB combined PNGs and 50 MB ZIP. Processing stops after 90 seconds.

How to Extract Frames from a GIF

1. Choose a GIF

Drop in one animation or choose a file from your device. GifLoom reads the complete GIF locally before it offers any downloads.

2. Create the still images

Select Extract Frames. Each output is a full-canvas PNG in the same order as the source animation, including the effect of frame offsets and disposal.

3. Preview and download

Choose a frame to inspect it and download that PNG, or save the whole ordered set in one ZIP archive.

What Is a GIF Frame Extractor?

A frame extractor turns the pictures inside an animation into separate still images. GifLoom composes optimized frame updates onto the original canvas before exporting each picture as PNG, so the files show the full animation frame rather than a partial patch. A PNG does not contain the GIF’s frame timing or animation.

Full pictures from partial updates

GIF frames may update only a rectangle of the canvas. The tool applies those updates in sequence and honors the disposal instruction before moving to the next frame. Transparent areas remain transparent in PNG when the source frame uses transparency.

Still images versus time segments

Use frame extraction when you need individual stills. To make separate animated clips by time, split a GIF into segments instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I extract frames from a GIF?

Choose one GIF or load the sample, then select Extract Frames. GifLoom composes each frame in order and creates a PNG for every frame on your device. Preview a frame, download it, or save all frames in a ZIP.

Does the frame extractor keep the animation?

Each exported PNG is a still picture, so GIF timing and animation are not included. The original GIF remains unchanged. Use the preview to inspect the stills in their original order.

Are complete frames extracted or just GIF patches?

The tool reconstructs each full canvas image, including the GIF frame offsets and disposal instructions. A frame stored as a small patch is shown as it appears in the animation.

Are transparent pixels preserved in PNG files?

Yes. PNG supports transparency, and transparent areas in the composed GIF frame remain transparent in the exported image. Some GIFs use an opaque background instead.

Can I download just one frame?

Yes. Choose a frame in the preview list and select Download selected PNG. The archive option contains every frame with fixed, ordered filenames.

What is the input or output limit?

The local input limit is 50 MB, 1,000 frames, 4 million canvas pixels per frame and 40 million total canvas pixels. Combined PNG output and the complete ZIP are each limited to 50 MB. Jobs stop after 90 seconds.

Will PNG frames be smaller than my GIF?

Not necessarily. PNG is lossless and each image contains the complete canvas, while GIF may store compact frame patches and indexed colors. The ZIP stores the PNG files without an additional compression pass.

Can I extract frames from several GIFs at once?

This page processes one GIF at a time. Download its PNGs, remove the current file, then choose the next one. Batch extraction is not available.

Are my GIF or filenames uploaded?

Files never leave your browser for frame extraction. The PNG images and ZIP are created locally, and exported filenames use a fixed GifLoom pattern rather than your source filename.

Why was my GIF rejected?

The complete source is checked before any result is offered. A damaged frame, unsupported size, animation budget overrun or unavailable local browser API stops the job; no partial ZIP is kept. Try a valid, shorter GIF in a current browser.
