Upload your GIF
Choose a GIF or drop it into the tool. The file opens in local browser memory. A sample animation is available if you want to try the controls first.
Give your animation the room it needs. Set exact pixels, scale by percentage, or choose a preset. Animation and transparency stay with it, and GIF files never leave your browser.
No file uploads. No waiting in a server queue.
CHANGE THE FRAME, KEEP THE PICTURE
A GIF resizer changes the width and height of an image’s canvas. A 480 × 320 animation can become 240 × 160 while showing the same scene. GifLoom redraws the complete visual state of each frame at the new dimensions, so small moving patches do not get separated from their background.
Cropping cuts away part of the picture. Resizing keeps the full frame and changes how many pixels describe it. Leave the aspect-ratio lock on to keep the original proportions, or unlock it when you deliberately want different horizontal and vertical scaling.
Dimensions describe the canvas; file size describes how many bytes it takes to store the GIF. A smaller canvas often uses fewer bytes, but an enlarged or re-encoded GIF can be larger. When a destination cares about a byte limit, use the companion tool to compress GIF file size.
Start with the space where the animation will appear. Platform recommendations and GifLoom’s suggested working sizes are distinguished below; checked October 12, 2026. A preset is not a guarantee that a destination will accept a GIF.
| Use | Starting dimensions | Before you upload |
|---|---|---|
| Discord emoji | Up to 128 × 128 | Discord’s emoji guidance ↗; stickers have separate requirements. |
| Slack emoji | Square; 128 × 128 is a useful starting point | Slack recommends square images ↗. Check its byte and animation limits too. |
| X profile photo | 400 × 400 | X recommends 400 × 400 ↗ and does not support animated profile GIFs. Turn off Keep animation for a static first-frame GIF. |
| Small avatar | 256 × 256 | A GifLoom suggestion, not a universal Reddit requirement. Check the destination’s accepted formats. |
| Website embed | 600 px wide or less | A practical starting point; match the actual width of your page’s content area. |
| Email signature | 200 px wide or less | A GifLoom suggestion. Some email clients show only the first frame. |
Square presets fit inside their bounds when the aspect ratio is locked. For an exact square without cropping, unlock the ratio; a non-square source will stretch. GIF stickers, emoji, and profile photos are different upload surfaces.
Choose a GIF or drop it into the tool. The file opens in local browser memory. A sample animation is available if you want to try the controls first.
Enter a width and height, choose a percentage, or use a preset. The ratio is locked by default. Keep animation and transparency enabled unless you want a still image or a white background.
Select Resize GIF, then compare the original and new dimensions. Watch the result or pause its preview. Download the new GIF when it fits the space you had in mind.
With Keep animation enabled, every input frame is retained, along with its stored delay and loop setting. GifLoom first applies the original frame updates and disposal rules, then scales the composed image. Very short frame delays may still play differently across browsers; their stored values remain unchanged.
GIF supports on-or-off transparency. Transparent areas remain transparent when Keep transparency is selected; switching it off places the entire result on white. Scaling and GIF palette re-encoding may alter fine edges and colors, so check the preview before sharing.
Need fewer bytes after choosing your dimensions? Compress GIF file size with the same local-processing approach. You can also reverse animated GIF playback. Or merge GIFs into a single sequence. Change GIF speed without dropping frames. Trim a GIF to a selected time interval. Use the GIF Splitter to save separate time-based clips.
A FEW DETAILS BEFORE YOU RESIZE
It changes the pixel width and height of a GIF. The file remains in GIF format and the full picture is retained. GifLoom can apply exact dimensions or scale both sides by a percentage.
Choose the emoji preset after opening your GIF. With the ratio locked, the image fits within 128 × 128; a rectangular source remains rectangular. Unlock the ratio to make both sides exactly 128, which can stretch a non-square picture. Check Discord’s other emoji requirements before uploading.
Choose the 400 × 400 avatar preset and check the resulting width and height. X recommends these dimensions but does not support animated GIF profile images. Turn off Keep animation to export the first frame as a static GIF. This tool does not convert a GIF to PNG or JPEG.
A smaller canvas often requires fewer bytes, but the result depends on the image and how the original was encoded. Upscaling can make a GIF larger. The resizer always honors the requested dimensions instead of silently returning a smaller original file. Use the GIF compressor when your main goal is a byte limit.
Keep animation is enabled by default. Every source frame, stored delay, and loop setting is retained while it is on. Turning it off deliberately exports only the first visual frame. A paused page preview does not remove animation from the downloaded file.
Yes, keep the transparency option selected to retain transparent areas. GIF uses binary transparency, so partially transparent edges created while scaling are converted back to transparent or opaque pixels. Turning the option off fills transparent areas with white. The checkerboard is a preview background and is not included in the file.
Resizing changes the canvas dimensions while keeping the complete frame. Cropping removes content around the edges. GifLoom’s resizer does not crop or add padding. Keep the ratio locked to avoid stretching the picture.
Resizing gives an image a particular width and height. Compression focuses on how many bytes the file uses, sometimes changing colors, frames, or dimensions to get there. The tools share local processing but have different controls and result criteria. Choose the compressor for a target file size and the resizer for a particular canvas.
Yes, choose 25%, 50%, 75%, or enter a value from 1% to 400%. The percentage is always relative to the original, rather than repeatedly scaling the last result. Pixel dimensions are rounded to whole numbers with a minimum of one pixel. The usual output limits still apply.
GIF files never leave your browser for resizing. The input limit is 50 MB, with up to 1,000 frames, a 16-million-pixel canvas, and 80 million total frame pixels. Output sides can be 1–4,096 pixels, subject to the same pixel budgets. Very complex jobs stop after 90 seconds so you can try a smaller result.
The right dimensions.
